Tips for teachers to foster students’ communication skills

  1. Use technology to teach

Sometimes understanding every topic from the textbooks becomes difficult for students. Also listening to the teachers reading out the textbook material is not engaging for students. To foster students’ communication skills, teachers should not limit their teaching to textbooks. You should switch to educational technology.

By using online teaching apps and sites, teachers can access several audiovisual tools like educational videos, modules, demonstrations, picture cards, PowerPoint presentations, and more. With the help of visualization, students tend to understand the concepts better and quicker. A good understanding and relatability help students to communicate more and better in the classroom.

  1. Keep asking questions in between teaching

To brush up on students’ active listening and verbal communication skills, this tip will surely help. Many students don’t listen to the teachers carefully or get distracted very easily. Without listening to the teacher, they don’t understand the topic being taught and discussed which affects their participation in the class. However, when students know that the teachers ask questions in between the teaching, they tend to listen more actively. They become more concentrated in the class. This helps them to seek a proper understanding of what the speaker is conveying. Answering the questions raised by the teachers will brush up their public speaking skills and confidence too.

  1. Have competitions and cultural events

Another way to work on students’ communication skills is by organizing competitions and cultural events. Have interesting competitions. Set a reward system and encourage all to participate in these activities. On all cultural festivals and occasions, teachers can plan for events for example
