PSC Age Limit in Kerala: The Kerala Public Service Commission is a Government body which conducts examinations and selects candidates for civil service jobs in the state of Kerala in India. It conducts almost all the examinations a candidate has to clear by merit to get a job in The Government of Kerala.

There are many conditions that need to be followed while applying for Kerala Public Service Commission Examination. The major condition is AGE REQUIREMENTS. Different categories have different age requirements and that is what we are going to discuss over here.

Kerala PSC Age Limit & Age Relaxation

There are many age concessions and relaxations that are provided to candidates falling in categories like SC, ST, OBC, Ex-Serviceman, Physically handicapped (The blind, the deaf, the dumb and the orthopedically handicapped), and provisional employees of the Government of Kerala. All the age concessions and relaxations are available to candidates who fall under the mentioned categories with the maximum age limit of not more than 50 (fifty) years.

Kerala PSC Age Limit for General Category

For all the General candidates not falling under any category of age concessions and relaxations, the upper age limit is set at 36 years of age. It was earlier set at 35 years but was raised to 36 years in 2012.

PSC Age Limit for SC ST Category

For Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes, the prescribed upper age limit is increased by 5 (five) years. Although, there are a few conditions for enjoying this age concession which is mentioned below:

  •    If the Educational qualification required for an appointment is lower than a recognized university degree: For a Scheduled Caste (Adult Member & Children) or Scheduled Tribe candidate holding an educational qualification which is higher than the required educational qualification for the appointment, the maximum age limit is not applied, which means age concession is provided.

  •    If the Educational qualification required for an appointment is a degree: For a Scheduled Caste (Adult Member & Children) or Scheduled Tribe candidate holding a degree which is equivalent to the required educational degree for the appointment, the maximum age limit is not applied, which means that age concession is provided.
  • If the age of a Schedule Caste or Schedule Tribe candidate is the only condition holding back the recruitment, the upper age limit is relaxed to fill up the quota reserved for them.

Kerala PSC Age Limit for Backward Classes (OBC)

For Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates, the prescribed upper age limit is raised by 3 (three) years.

Kerala PSC Age Limit for EX Servicemen

In case of Ex-servicemen, the maximum age limit for a post is lowered by the period of time served by them in the Defence forces and the period of non-employment after discharge to a maximum of 5 (five) years. For example, if a candidate has served for 2 years in the Defence forces and is unemployed for a period of 1 year after the discharge, the age relaxation is 3 years.

For enjoying this age relaxation, discharge certificate is required for proof of service in the defence forces and the Certificate obtained from the District Sainik Welfare Officer is required for the proof of the period of unemployment.

The following services will be considered for Ex-Servicemen: Ex-GREF Personnel, Reservists, Retired Defence Service Personnel, Disembodied Territorial Army Personnel those who have rendered service in the erstwhile Travancore-Cochin Labour Units. N. C. C. Cadet Instructors who have been retrenched after a specified period of service and the retrenched whole time N. C. C. Instructors who have put in minimum period of service of six months before retrenchment.

 

Kerala PSC Age Limit for Physically Handicapped

 (The Blind, The Deaf, The Dumb and the Orthopedically Handicapped)

Age concession up to 15 (fifteen) years is granted to the blind, the deaf and the dumb.

Age concession up to 10 (ten) years is granted to the orthopedically handicapped.

Age relaxations can only be applied if the candidate meets all the required qualifications except the age limit. If anyone is found to be of sound suitability after examination for the required post, the applicant will be considered on merit.

A physically handicapped candidate applying for age relaxation has to produce the suitable certificate granted by a competent authority in the prescribed format of the Kerala PSC to prove that they are physically handicapped with one or more than one disabilities.

AGE CONCESSION CATEGORIES:

(a) BLIND: Those who suffer any one of the following conditions:

  1. The complete absence of sight.
  2. Visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/20 in the better eye with correcting lenses.

iii. Field of vision limited to an angle of 20 degrees or worse.

(b) DEAF: Those who have a complete non-functional sense of hearing for the ordinary purpose of life.

(c) DUMB: Those who have complete non-functional power of speech for the ordinary purpose of life.

(d) THE ORTHOPEDICALLY HANDICAPPED: Those who have physical defects and abnormalities in their body causing adequate interference for the proper functioning of the muscles, the bones and the joints.

Kerala PSC Age Limit for Sub Inspector

Age limit is for General Candidates.

The post of Sub Inspector in Kerala Police is available for candidates of ages 20 to 36 years and who hold a graduation degree from any recognised university.

Category 1: For Open Market Posting, the age limit is 20 to 31 years of age.

Category 2: For Ministerial Posting, the upper age limit is 36 years of age.

Category 3: For Constabulary Posting, the upper age limit is 36 years of age.

Age limit is for SC & ST Category

For Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes candidate, the prescribed upper age limit is increased by 5 (five) years in all three categories.

Age limit is for OBC

For Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates, the prescribed upper age limit is raised by 3 (three) years in all three categories.

Age limit is for The Blind, The Deaf 

Upper age limit is increased up to 15 (fifteen) years and the age relaxation is granted to the blind, the deaf and the dumb in all three categories if deemed fit for the service.

Age limit is for Handicapped –Orthopedically  

Upper age limit is increased up to 10 (ten) years and the age relaxation is granted to the orthopedically handicapped in all three categories if deemed fit for the service.

Age limit is for Ex Servicemen  

For Ex-Servicemen, the upper age limit is increased to the extent of the period time served by them in the Defence forces and the period of non-employment status on discharge up to a maximum of 5 (five) years.

Kerala PSC Age Limit for LDC
